If the EOS M3 was a move by Canon to take their mirrorless line to a more advanced market, the EOS M10 is their way of saying that they still have entry-level users in mind as well.
The M10 closely resembles the original EOS M and the M2 in both appearance and specifications. Unlike the EOS M3’s newer 24.2-megapixel sensor, the M10 utilizes the previous generation’s 18.0-megapixels sensor, although paired with a newer DIGIC 6 processor this time. Also missing is the M3’s Hybrid CMOS AF III focusing system as the M10 uses AF II instead.
The M10 comes with a new kit lens, an EF-M 15-45mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM, which is more compact that previous kit lenses when retracted.
The M10 is a very compact package, closer to the size of many compact cameras than most mirrorless cameras. On the back is a 3-inch LCD that flips up for selfies and as a waist-level viewfinder. There’s also Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity built in.
The EOS M10 will be available in November at an MSRP of $729.99. If you want to just the kit lens, it will be available separately for $389.99. For more information, read the full Canon press release here.
