Leica Announces X-U (Typ 113) and Three M Lenses

Leica X-U (Typ 113)

Leica is well-known for their solid materials and handcrafted build quality but I will admit that I would still be a little hesitant to take any of them outside in Vancouver’s rain let alone underwater or in the snow. If taking your Leica on a rugged, outdoor adventure sounds like fun, then it’s good news! Today Leica announced the X-U (Typ 113), a shockproof, dust- and water-sealed expedition camera.

The X-U is waterproof up to 15 meters and can withstand extreme conditions involving cold and dust/sand. Made in Germany, the body is made of aluminum and entirely sealed with TPE armoring. Battery compartments and memory card slots feature a double locking failsafe.

At the heart of the X-U is a 16.5-megapixel APS-C sensor, paired with a Leica Summilux 23mm F1.7 ASPH lens. MSRP is $4199.00 and there will be matching floating strap and wrist strap accessories available.

For more complete specs, see the X-U’s product page at bccamera.com.

3 New M Lenses

Last week, Leica added 3 lenses to it’s M-mount portfolio with the Summicron-M 28mm F2 ASPH, Summicron-M 35mm F2 ASPH and Elmarit-M 28mm F2.8 ASPH.

All three are compact and versatile, made in Germany and featuring full-metal rectangular lens hood. The 28mm and 35mm focal length make them ideal for street photography, travel and reportage among other things.

We expect them to be here in February and the 35mm is available in black or silver.  For prices and additional specs, check out the product links below.
