Leica announced their latest special edition camera, the ‘Correspondent’ edition of their M-P digital rangefinder camera, designed by American rocker Lenny Kravitz. The all black M-P, strategically worn in certain areas to reveal the brass underneath, comes with a Summicron-M 35mm F2, a Summilux-M 50mm F1.4, and a handmade classic case to hold it all in.
The camera is inspired by Kravitz’ own experience with Leica cameras, starting with the Leicaflex he received from his father at 21. The finish is designed to look like it’s been used for years but unlike pre-distressed jeans, the patina is really quite beautiful. Each one is slightly different and unique as the each camera is finished by hand. The camera, case and carrying strap are accented with conservation-friendly snake skin leather, handcrafted in Germany.
The Summilux-M 50mm F1.4 is unique to this particular special edition set, designed to look like the 1959 version with a profiled distance setting ring but with the optics of the current modern version.
The announcement of the special M-P set corresponds with the release of Flash, a photobook by Lenny Kravitz that captures what it’s like to be a rock star constantly in the public eye. If you ever wanted to know what it’s like to be a on a world tour with thousands of fans and paparazzi snapping your picture everywhere you go, you’ll want to get your hands on one of the 900 copies of Flash, sold at Leica stores and boutiques starting March 15th.
Only 125 of these ‘Correspondent’ sets will be made and they’ll be available in Leica Boutiques, including the one at Broadway Camera in Richmond, in March. More information is available on our website.
