Sigma Adds Three New Lenses to their Art and Sport Lineup

Sigma introduced three new lenses at Photokina earlier this week, two primes and a wide angle zoom lens: 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art, 500mm F4 DG OS HSM Sport, and 12-24mm F4 DG HSM Art.

With megapixel count rising, Sigma designed the 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art to match rising performance needs. They also redesigned their Hyper Sonic Motor to offer photographers better autofocus control. Full-time manual focusing is possible simply by switching to MO (Manual Override) mode. The lens consists of 14 elements in 12 groups, has a minimum focusing distance of 85cm, and features a large F1.4 aperture to capture those buttery smooth bokeh shots.

Previously, Sigma’s Sport lineup only consisted of two telephoto zoom lenses. That changed this week with the announcement of the 500mm F4 DG OS HSM. This impressive prime lens features a new Intelligent OS and refined stabilization algorithm to compensate for movement that may occur while shooting. There are two FLD and one SLD glass elements with 9 diaphragm blades. With its magnesium alloy barrel, the lens weighs in at 3.31kg. It is also dust and splash proof. And to top it off, a carbon fibre lens hood is included.

Sigma’s wide-angle Art series primes have already been well received; now they are matched with a full-frame zoom, the 12-24mm F4 DG HSM Art. To help reduce distortion commonly found in wide angle lenses, Sigma manufactured an 80mm molded glass aspherical element into the lens. On top of the mount being dust and splash proof, a water and oil-repellent coating was applied to the front and rear lens element. The lens is constructed of 16 elements in 11 groups, 9 rounded diaphragm blades, and weighs approximately 1.15kg.

The Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art ($1499.95), 500mm F4 DG OS HSM Sport ($7799.95), and 12-24mm F4 DG HSM Art ($2069.95) are expected to be available in November.
