Sigma continues to one-up everyone by releasing faster lenses than the OEMs have available. With the new 20mm F1.4 ART, Sigma has a lens that’s two-thirds of a stop brighter than Nikon’s 20mm F1.8G ED and a full two stops brighter than Canon’s 20mm F2.8 USM.
The lens is made of 15 elements in 11 groups, including two large double aspherical elements that make such a fast aperture at such a wide angle possible. There’s 9 rounded aperture blades for smooth out-of-focus elements and a fixed lens hood that requires a special lens cap. And if you’re not a fan of the plastic lens cap, there’s a metal one available separately.
The 20mm F1.4 ART is designed with the latest high-resolution cameras on the market in mind. The width and large aperture might make it a good choice for astrophotography, for example. The lens expected to arrive in December with Canon EF, Nikon F and Sigma mounts for a MSRP of $1249.95.
