The overall design is very much like RX100, but RX100 II is slightly thicker and weighs 281g (w/ battery and memory card), 17% heavier than the previous model. The RX100 II comes with an upgraded 20-megapixel sensor. According to Sony, it provides 40% more sensitivity in low-light conditions and reduces overall picture noise compared to the previous model. It was made possible by combining the world’s first 1.0 type back-illuminated sensor- an Exmor R- with a large aperture, Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* F1.8 lens and BIONZ image processing engine. Other big improvements include Wi-Fi connectivity, multi-interface shoe for optional accessories and an articulating LCD display that tilts upwards (up to 84 degrees) and downwards (down to 45 degrees).

The RX1R is a special edition of the RX1 but without the optical low-pass (anti-aliasing) filter. Sony claimed “by eliminating the OLPF, the image projected by the lens reaches the sensor without any dispersion or blurring, so that the maximum resolution capabilities of the optical system can be fully realized.” As a result, the RX1R promises sharper and more detailed images when image resolutions matter. The sensor is still a 24.3-megapixels CMOS, and the overall design remains the same, along with other RX1 features.
