After last month's development announcement during their 100th anniversary celebration, today Nikon announced further details for their upcoming D850.
It starts with a 45.7-megapixel backside-illuminated (BSI) full-frame CMOS FX-format sensor with a native ISO range of 64 - 25,600 (expandable to 32 - 108,400) and an all new EXPEED 5 image processing engine. Continuous mode shoots at up to 7 frames-per-second (up to 9 fps with the optional MB-D18 battery grip) and the buffer holds 51 full size 14-bit lossless RAW files or 170 shots in 12-bit lossless.
Video mode shoots up to 4K UHD in 24/30 fps and up to 120 fps slow motion at Full HD 1080p. Other video friendly features include focus peaking, zebra stripe highlight indication and an uncompressed HDMI output.
The D850 has the same 153-point, Multi-Cam 20K autofocus system with 99 cross-type sensors as the Nikon D5.
The optical viewfinder has a 0.75X magnification, the biggest ever of any Nikon DSLR. On the back is Nikon's most advanced 3.2", 2360k-dot articulated touchscreen LCD.
Batteries last up to 1,840 photos at full resolution or 70 minutes of video. Data's recorded to the D850's dual memory card slots - one XQD and one SD.
There are other interesting features such as integrated focus stacking (up to 300 shots!) and 8K time-lapse (4K in camera) using the built-in intervalometer. The D850's buttons are illuminated, increasing visibility when shooting in low-light.
The Nikon D850 is expected to ship in September 2017 and is available for pre-order now for $4,299.00.
