Product Description
Weighing a mere 200 grams and sporting an M mount, the 35mm/1.4 Nokton Classic SC is an optical heavyweight. Except for the single coating on elements, this newly formulated version is identical to its multi-coated sister. While the MC is great at controlling flare, this single-coated version hearkens back to the golden age of photojournalism, yielding images with slightly lower contrast and increased shadow detail. Its very large maximum aperture is great for available-light photography and yields a beautiful bokeh in out of focus areas. I highly recommend this superior optic at a typical Voigtlander-value price. On a digital rangefinder with a 1.3 crop factor, the Voigtlander 35mm/1.4 Nokton Classic has an effective focal length of 46mm.
Cosina has emerged as an admired producer of top-quality optics. The rangefinder lenses, be they Leica thread mount or M mount, are prime examples of applying modern design and production techniques to produce a lineup of unprecedented ingenuity and quality. From the 12mm Heliar to the 90mm Apo Lanthar, Voigtlander lenses have turned what was once considered impossible, into the routine. All the lenses have aperture indentations calibrated in 1/2-stop intervals, and all share pricing that is truly a bargain.
