Leica Adds 28mm to Summilux-M Lineup

Posted by Broadway Camera on 2015-05-25

Leica fills the 28mm-sized hole in their Summilux-M lineup today with the announcement of the Summilux-M 28mm/f1.4 ASPH lens. Joining the 21mm, 24mm, 35mm and 50mm, the 28mm completes a F1.4 set of focal lengths Leica describe as ideal for photojournalism, architecture and landscapes.

The lens is built not only for shallow depth-of-field and subject isolation but extreme sharpness even wide open. There’s every indication that the 28mm will match the high standards of build quality and craftsmanship that make Leica a leader in photography.

There’s ten elements in seven groups, including a floating element and an aspherical element. Three elements are cemented and seven have anomalous partial dispersion. All this ensures superb color reproduction and high contrast across the focal range. Minimum focusing distance is 0.7m.

There’s an unmistakable look that comes from Leica lenses, an intangible bit of special that gives images that X-factor.

We anticipate that the 28mm Summilux-M will start shipping in the coming weeks. It comes with metal lens hood and retails for $7438.
