Nikon’s entry-level DSLR line got an upgrade today with the new D3400. It features the same 24.2MP DX CMOS sensor and EXPEED 4 image processing found in the D3300 but now with the inclusion of Nikon SnapBridge, a Bluetooth Low Energy technology that automatically transfers images from the camera to a connected smartphone or tablet.
Nikon also claims that with the D3400, the battery is good for 1200 shots, which is more than a 70% improvement over the 700 shots that the same Nikon EN-EL14a battery was capable of in the D3300, which was already very good. Nikon has figured out a way to make their cameras more efficient and this could be a big selling point for DSLRs as most mirrorless cameras aren’t known for their long lasting battery life.
Other specifications include an 11-point autofocus system, 5FPS continuous shooting, 1080p/60fps video and 3.0″ rear LCD.
Four new lenses were also announced as the kit lens and 70-300mm lenses received a Stepping Motor upgrade that not only improves autofocus speed and noise but reduces the overall size and weight of the lens. Both the 18-55 and 70-300 come in Vibration Reduction (VR) and non-VR variants.
The D3400 is expected to arrive in stores in early September in a kit with the AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm F3.5-5.6G VR at $639.95. All four 18-55 and 70-300 lenses are also expected to be available in early September.

Transferring photos from the Nikon D3400 is a snap, as the camera makes it easier than ever to share photos wirelessly through Nikon SnapBridge.
