Sigma Updates 150-600mm F5-6.3 Firmware, Claims AF Now 50% Faster

Posted by Boadway Camera on 2016-03-15

Other than the largest updates or bug fixes that make the news, firmware updates usually aren’t very exciting but Sigma announced yesterday that they have an upgrade for their extremely popular 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM lens, in both Sports and Contemporary flavors, that make the autofocus up to 50% faster.

Now 50% of a fraction of a second doesn’t sound like much but considering the subjects these lenses are intended for, it’s the difference between getting a bird’s wing in the right position or the ball in focus right as it’s caught for a touchdown.

Sigma says that depending on the situation, you should see autofocus time cut by anywhere from 20% to 50%. The lens update is available now and done through Sigma’s USB Dock accessory, although if you don’t have one, you can contact Sigma about having them do it for you.
