The Images Are In The Details

The Images Are In The Details

Taking photos of stunning architecture is thrilling for most photographers; the attention to detail, the subtle yet striking design elements, and the sheer size of the buildings can make for satisfying images. There are lots of creative opportunities when taking photos of buildings and you could spend days trying to find all the possible images in a handful of buildings.

When you are looking at a building to photograph, try not to look at the whole structure as an entire image. Instead break it into smaller images, look for small details that could make interesting abstract images or lines that create a visually appealing scene. Light can play a big factor in making interesting architecture images as well. Pay attention to how the light outside interacts with the façade of the building. If it’s sunny underexpose the images to get more details in the highlights of the building while making the shadows black to create a high contrast scene. If it’s dusk the warm glow of the setting sun can boost the colours of the building and really make the image pop! There are many opportunities and every eye will see them differently than another.

The main point is just to pay attention to the details. This message can be taken and used for almost any situation. The more you look at the details of a subject, the more images you will find. With a little practice you will start to see these details in everyday life that you may not have noticed before, and see images that can be created even from something that could be uninteresting at first glance.
