Product Description
The pursuit of perfection.
Lighter. Faster. More precise.
A core part of any professional’s kit, 70-200mm provides an essential telephoto zoom range while a fast constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 delivers flexibility in low light and attractive background blur for portraiture, events, sports and more. With near-silent, high-speed autofocus, outstanding S-Line optics and lighter than anything in its class1, the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II represents the apex of form and function, precisely tailored to the needs of those who demand the best.
- 70-200mm Zoom Range
- f/2.8 Fast Constant Aperture

Built for professionals.
From its weight and balance to the position of key controls and extensive weather sealing, every aspect of the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II's design has been developed and refined to meet the needs of working professionals.
Lightest in its class.
A difference you'll feel every time you pick it up. Easier to carry and less tiring to use, the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II is the lightest lens in its class1 and a full 26% lighter than its predecessor, thanks to thinner lens elements and a reduction in the total number of elements in the optical design. When carried along with the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II, you'll benefit from a combined weight savings of 1.1 lbs (492 g) compared to the previous generation.
Built rugged.
When your work takes you into difficult, dangerous places, have full confidence that your equipment will be ready when you are.
The NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II's internal zoom design, extensive environmental seals and hydrophobic fluorine coating on the front element mean you can shoot confidently, whatever the conditions.2
Multiple L-Fn buttons.
Multiple L-Fn and L-Fn2 buttons can be assigned to various functions to suit your workflow. Buttons are positioned comfortably around the lens barrel for both horizontal and vertical shooting.
Stable and shake-free, even handheld.
Enjoy smooth, shake-free shooting for both photos and video, with built-in Vibration Reduction—up to 6 stops of compensation.3
Sharp, in-focus shots, time after time after time.
When you see the perfect image start to take shape, you don't have time for trial and error. You need an autofocus system that responds as quickly as your reflexes, grabbing and maintaining focus in an instant and not letting go.
Breakthrough AF performance.
Featuring the same powerful multi-focus system with Silky Swift Voice Coil Motors (SSVCM) as our professional sports telephoto lenses and a new high-precision optical encoder, the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II redefines AF performance in its class.
Compared to previous generation:
- 3.5X faster
- 17.5X more precise
- 40% better focus tracking while zooming
Silent autofocus.
The powerful SSVCM focus motors operate silently, so there's no risk of affecting in-camera audio recording.
Designed for hybrid shooting.
From its beautifully-balanced handling and customisable controls to silent focus and an optical design that practically eliminates focus breathing, the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II is ideally suited to mixed video and stills capture.
Key adjustments at your fingertips.
Easy clicked or clickless adjustment of aperture, exposure and ISO sensitivity using the customisable control ring.
Ideal for gimbals and matte boxes.
The non-extending internal zoom design means that the length and centre of gravity doesn't change when zooming. So there's no need to rebalance or reposition your setup when changing focal length—ideal when using a matte box or attached to a gimbal.
Truly inspiring image quality.
Edge-to-edge sharpness, aberration-free details and improved bokeh that rivals the best prime lenses.
Clarity in all conditions.
Get high-contrast, colourful results even in backlit lighting thanks to Nikon's proprietary Meso Amorphous and ARNEO Coatings.
The smallest details in sharp focus.
Move in closer than ever before with a minimum focus distance of just 15 inches (0.38 m) at 70mm for a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.3X.
More reach. Greater magnification.
When your work calls for more than 200mm, use the optional NIKKOR Z teleconverters to transform the lens into a high-performance 100-280 f/4 or 140-400mm f/5.6 zoom. Furthermore, minimum focus remains the same, greatly increasing maximum magnification.4
High clarity and edge sharpness is maintained thanks, in part, to the class-leading dimensions of the Z-mount.
Natural skin tones and finely-rendered detail.
The optical design of the lens includes an unprecedented six different types of special glass, including fluorite, SR, ED, Super ED and multiple large diameter, double-sided aspherical elements. The end result is sharp, faithful detail, accurate colour and exceptional correction of aberrations across the frame, even at wide aperture settings.
Sharpness and softness in perfect harmony.
The mark of a great lens is more than just resolution, it's character—that indefinable combination of naturally-rendered details and beautifully soft, distraction-free background bokeh that draws the viewer in.
S-Line Quality
The S-Line designation is reserved for premium NIKKOR Z lenses. As an S-Line product, the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II features Nikon's best optics, most advanced coatings, cutting-edge technology and premium build.
