Product Description
"NOKTON" is the designation given to Voigtländer lenses with an aperture wider than F1.5. In the 1950s, when the first NOKTON was introduced, large apertures were sought after to enable photography in low-light conditions. Today, however, as image sensors have become increasingly sensitive, there is a growing demand for large-aperture lenses, as photographers can now utilize the dramatic ”bokeh” created by wide apertures as a creative tool.
The NOKTON classic 35mm F1.4 is a large-aperture, compact wide-angle lens that revives the charm of classic lenses through the latest optical technology. Unlike modern, performance-oriented lens concepts, it intentionally retains some aberrations to pursue the lens’s unique character and the beauty of its rendering.
The lens features a 6-group, 8-element configuration and employs a double-Gauss design with a symmetrical arrangement around the aperture, reproducing the unique rendering characteristics of classic lenses. At wide-open aperture, the natural and smooth bokeh creates a sense of depth, allowing you to enjoy soft and delicate rendering, while stopping down yields the sharpness typical of modern lenses, offering distinct rendering characteristics depending on the aperture setting.
The NOKTON classic 35mm F1.4 is compatible with full-frame sensors and optimized for various mount bodies. It has a minimum focusing distance of 0.27m and features manual focus only.
One of its key features is the all-metal barrel, which incorporates a high-precision helicoid in the focus ring to provide a smooth, silky-smooth operation that communicates even the most precise focusing adjustments. The aperture is mechanically controlled via a direct-drive ring, allowing adjustment directly on the lens rather than through the camera’s command dial. The aperture consists of 10 blades, ensuring that out-of- focus areas—such as point light sources—are rendered with a pleasing, well-defined shape. This lens comes with a dedicated metal screw-on lens hood. Equipped with electronic contacts that enable communication between the lens and the camera body, it supports Exif data recording, in-body image stabilization, and various focus assist functions.
<Note for RF-mount>
* The Focus Guide function is not available on the EOS-RP.
*Since the auto-sleep function on RF-mount camera bodies does not detect extended activity when adjusting the focus or aperture on manual lenses, we recommend either turning off the auto-sleep function on the camera body or adjusting the settings to increase the time before it activates.
